Dog myths - What’s fact & what’s fiction?

Dog myths - What’s fact & what’s fiction?

There's a lot of dog advise out there, however, not all of it is true! Today, let's bust some common dog myths and set the record straight ;)

Myth #1: A wagging tail means a happy dog

Not true! Dogs wag their tails for different reasons, including excitement, nervousness, or even aggression. In fact, I made a video a while ago about this topic that went viral (18Million views!) and was shared by many dog trainers in the community. Feel free to check out the examples here.

Myth #2: Dogs are color blind

Dogs can see colors, just not the same way we do. Dogs can see yellow spectrum, along with shades of blue and grey. That's why we made our large snuffle mat blue and yellow colors, since these two colors are more visually appealing and easier for dogs to distinguish and interact with.

Myth #3: You can’t teach an old dog new tricks

Dogs of any age can learn! Senior dogs may take a little longer, in most cases they learn just as quickly as their younger self, but they’re fully capable of learning new skills with patience and positive reinforcement.

Myth #4: Dogs Eat Grass When They’re Sick

Some dogs eat grass simply because they like it! We joke that Mika loves getting her side salad everyday. While some may do it to soothe their stomach, it’s not always a sign of illness.

Did any of these surprise you?

Best regards to you and your pup,

Xing, CPDT-KA & Mika💜
