Hi! I’m Xing, pronounced /sh-ing/. I’m a certified dog trainer and the founder of Golden Pup Enrichment, inspired by my Golden Retriever, Mika.

I was lying flat on the park grass, completely exhausted.

An hour of running around. Ten different toys. Fifty throws of the ball.

I had given Mika every ounce of my energy trying to “tire her out”.

She stood over me, looking down at my face as if to ask, “Ready to go again?”

That was when it hit me: Wow. She could go on forever.

I had been trying to meet her high energy needs with more physical exercise. But through my work as a certified dog trainer, I quickly realized that physical exercise alone wasn't the answer. The more physically fit a dog becomes, the more physical exercise they can handle. 

Exercise matters, but fulfilling a dog's needs goes beyond that.

So I changed Mika's routine.

I introduced more mental stimulation and paired it with calming activities like sniffing, licking, and chewing. Within days, I saw a different dog. She could settle at home and even relax while we enjoyed dinner at restaurants. The little things that used to send her into excitement no longer seemed to matter as much.

People started commenting everywhere we went: “Oh wow, she is so calm.”

That experience reinforced something I had already seen in my training practice: anxious, high-energy, and reactive dogs can benefit from having appropriate outlets for their natural instincts.

I started sharing our DIY enrichment ideas on social media @goldenpup.mika. Soon, hundreds of dog parents were sending messages saying, “Thank you, I needed this,” and telling me how the ideas helped their dogs.

I realized the opportunity wasn't to make another cute dog toy.

It was to create thoughtfully designed, science-based enrichment that gives dogs something meaningful to do, while giving busy dog parents a practical way to help them live happier, calmer lives.

That became Golden Pup Enrichment.
